Fitness & Wellness

Archer’s Fitness and Wellness curriculum encourages students to pursue an active, healthy lifestyle through fitness activities and sports experiences. We instill in our students an enthusiasm and motivation for lifelong participation in physical activity. In Fitness classes, we teach skills and strategies for various movements; our Human Development classes offer a skills-based approach to teaching wellness. In our program, students build the skills necessary to make health-promoting decisions and engage in behaviors that benefit their well-being outside the Archer classroom. Our Fitness and Wellness program uses a holistic model focusing on mental health, media use, social connection, nutrition, and mindfulness. Leadership, skill improvement, functional knowledge, and cooperation for each activity are vital components of the program.

We empower students to be agents of change for their personal health and well-being, which means doing the following:
  • Playing sports & games
  • Working on a team for a common goal
  • Connecting learning to personal life
  • Health-related fitness training
  • Practicing mindfulness and yoga
  • Listening effectively and practicing empathy
  • Setting & achieving personal wellness goals

  • Middle School

The Middle School fitness and wellness curriculum encourages students to pursue an active, healthy lifestyle through fitness activities and sports experiences. The goal is to instill enthusiasm and motivation for lifelong participation in physical activity. In addition to teaching the particular skills and strategies for various sports, fitness and wellness class offers a character-shaping program that focuses on positive self-esteem and the importance of cooperation and good sportsmanship. Leadership, effort, skill improvement, knowledge of rules, and etiquette for each activity are vital components of the program. The students end the year with their own “Archer Olympics,” where they practice all the skills they learned throughout the year in a fun and relaxing environment.
  • Upper School

The emphasis in the Upper School program moves away from traditional sports and toward personal fitness and a variety of individual lifetime activities. Students are introduced and exposed to fitness choices that allow them to take responsibility for their own physical well-being. Students rotate through various activities throughout the year including sessions in the weight room, yoga, sports and games, and a full course of self-defense taught by Impact Personal Safety.
