Black Student Union and Eastern Star Gallery Premiere ‘At the Door Steps of Culture: Black Spaces as Sanctuaries’ Exhibit

On Thursday, February 6, the Black Student Union (BSU), in collaboration with the Eastern Star Gallery (ESG), presented the opening reception for ‘At the Doorstep of Culture: Black Spaces as Sanctuaries,’ an immersive installation honoring Black resilience, creativity, and community.
This exhibit reimagines a Black mid-century family home—an everyday yet extraordinary space where culture flourished amid societal challenges. Featuring personal artifacts from students’ and faculty's families, contributions from renowned artists Lauren Halsey and Maurice Harris, the expertise of historian Larry Earl, and the guidance of co-advisors BSU Dani LeNoir and Sala Bandele-Jackson alongside ESG Co-Chairs Marya Alford and Hannah Kremin, this installation weaves a powerful narrative of Black identity and heritage.

The exhibit will be on view from Thursday, February 6, to Thursday, February 27.
