CIF-SS and PBL Playoffs Begin This Week
The Archer School for Girls athletic teams have accumulated astounding records this Fall season in all sports, at all levels; and this week, it is time for the playoffs. Archer’s Varsity teams will move on to the California Interscholastic Federation Southern Section (CIF-SS) playoffs while Middle School teams will head into the Pacific Basin League (PBL) playoffs.
Volleyball
Varsity Volleyball posts 25-4 record to earn #4 Seed, will play St. Bonaventure in CIF-SS Playoffs on Tuesday, November 1, at 7:00 p.m. at Park Century School
Four seniors were honored on Monday, October 24, at Santa Monica College on Senior Night in advance of a three-set win over rival Pacifica Christian High School (Santa Monica). With the victory,

Valentina P.'17, and
Sophie S.'17, who have played three years together on Varsity, ran their three-year overall record to 64-19 with two league titles and three CIF playoff appearances, including a semifinal finish in 2015. The 2016 team, seeded fourth in the CIF-SS Division 7, is 25-4 (8-0 in league), has won the league title for the second straight season, has placed third in two tournaments, and won the
Milken Dig Pink Tournament for the third year in a row. The team will open with a home game and play St. Bonaventure (Buena Ventura) on Tuesday, November 1, at 7:00 p.m. at Park Century School in Culver City. The winner will advance to the second round on Thursday, November 3, at a site to be determined.

Archer’s entire volleyball program has excelled this season. The JV team went 10-3 overall, finishing second in the Liberty League. Each of Archer’s three Middle School teams earned a top seed heading into the PBL playoffs, going a combined 12-2 in division play. Archer’s “A” team (8th-grade level), will host a quarterfinal PBL playoff game at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 1 at Park Century Gym, just before the Varsity CIF playoff game.

Tennis
Varsity Tennis Qualifies for CIF-SS Playoffs, Wind Doubles League Final Championship
Encino - On Thursday, October 27, down one set in the Liberty League Finals doubles championship match, Liadan S.'17, and Sara R.'17 dug deep to win a thrilling 2-6, 6-3, 10-8 match at the Balboa Tennis Center in Encino. The duo were named “Liberty League Doubles MVPs” and will advance to compete in the CIF-SS individual playoffs, which begin on Monday, November 21. On the same day, Mari G. '17 finished in third place in the singles competition and was named to the Liberty “All-League” team. Mari is an alternate for the CIF-SS individual playoffs.
The Tennis program enjoyed its best overall season ever. Along with the success at the league finals, the team finished with an 11-6 overall record, 8-4 in league play, which secured the team an entry into the CIF-SS Division 4 playoffs on Tuesday, November 1. Archer will host Templeton High School (Templeton) in the Wild Card round at the Sycamore Courts on the campus of UCLA, and the winner will advance to the CIF-SS Division 4 first round on Wednesday, November 2, at a site to be determined.

In addition to the Varsity team's strong season, the JV team enjoyed a groundbreaking season as well. The team went 6-0 to complete the first undefeated season ever in tennis. Abigail L. '20 and Hannah K. '20 led the way, winning all 15 matches they competed in.
Cross Country
Cross Country Finishes in Top Ten at Mt. SAC Invitational
Walnut - Over 150 schools compete in the prestigious Mt. SAC Invitational each year on the campus of Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut. In the Division 5 race, Archer’s Cross Country team, led by the School’s best distance runner ever in Leyla N. '17, rose to the challenge on a blazing hot September afternoon to finish in seventh place. The team will need the same type of effort if they are to challenge for the Liberty League Championship on Wednesday, November 2, at Rancho Park in West Los Angeles. Archer’s cross country program promises more success in future years, with a Middle School team that is favored to win the PBL title on Tuesday, November 1, at Kenneth Hahn Park in Baldwin Hills. The Middle School team is led by running phenomenon Hailey H. '22, who has won first place overall at each of the four league races this season.
Swimming
Middle School Swimming Takes Second at Finals
Archer’s swimming program has been a dominant force over the last six years. The two-time defending league champion and 2016 CIF Finalist Varsity team competes in the Spring season, while the Middle School teams complete in the Fall. The Middle School team, having won three PBL titles in the previous five seasons, came up just short of another championship on Saturday, October 22, taking second place to Crossroads School (Santa Monica) at the Brentwood pool. Poppie N. '21 was the high point scorer for the team.
