Archer Anywhere courses are designed with best practices and student-centered learning at heart. Students can expect to engage with the material in various ways (videos, discussions, reading, visuals, etc.) and learn by doing and applying. Students will receive timely feedback on work in order to develop and improve skills.
Learning online requires some level of independence, organization, and time management. Those skills will be named, taught, and developed over the course of the program. Students needing additional support are encouraged to attain the services of a tutor, educational therapist, or coach, etc.
Each course is designed to take between 3-4 hours per week. Best practices include creating a space where you can focus and learn, including removing distractions by turning off notifications, closing other tabs, and setting a timer for the time you expect a task to take.
Get organized and set up your workspace. Set up a designated place to learn that fits your needs. If possible, avoid doing work in bed or laying down. Test the technology you’ll need and the internet connection before starting. To help you focus, consider extensions that help you focus by blocking distracting websites and games.
Make a schedule. Do you learn best in the morning or at night? Do you have other obligations that dictate how you use your time? Set up a consistent schedule to complete your work. Block out time in your calendar to ensure that you prioritize your learning.
Actively engage in learning. You are the driver of your learning. Take initiative by reading (and re-reading!) materials, reaching out to classmates or instructors, and seeking out additional research as needed. Successful online learners focus on seeking and applying feedback and earnestly engage with the material and activities.
Hold yourself accountable. Set goals at the beginning of the semester and check in with yourself weekly. Online learning requires self-directed learning; you are responsible for allotting time and completing assignments. Use calendar settings, reminders, planners, or timers to help you accomplish your goals.
Ask questions. Engage with the course and content. Ask questions and seek to understand.
Move. Taking online classes means that you may be more sedentary than usual. Remember to take breaks and move around in ways that work best for you.
In addition to the teachers of each course, students will have a Learning Coach that will guide students through their educational and social-emotional journey.
Families will have access to class pages and gradebooks to assess progress throughout the school year. A student’s Learning Coach will help identify patterns across academic subjects and teachers will be available by email or Zoom to answer questions that pertain to their class.
